WHAT DOES BIDDING
ACTUALLY COST YOU?

Fourteen questions for Utah businesses that sell to government, or have looked at it and decided not to. About five minutes. Most are one click.

+Who is asking. David Frost, Frost Labs LLC, a one-person company in Riverdale. I write and submit federal proposals myself, so this is a problem I have too, not one I read about.
+Why. I am building OfferorDesk, software for small companies that have nobody whose job is writing bids. It is meant to find the government jobs you can actually bid and explain why, draft a first submission from facts you have confirmed, and check the pricing and every instruction before you sign. Today it is a prototype on my own computer. While I build it, I want to hear from people who actually live this.
+What I do with your answers. Customer research, and a $3,000 Wildcat MicroFUND grant application at Weber State, which asks for evidence that I actually talked to businesses like yours. I will not sell your details, publish your name without asking, or add you to any list.
01Who you arerequired

Anonymous answers are much less useful, and I will not publish your name without asking first.

02Roughly how many people work there?
03Have you ever bid on government work?

Federal, state, county, city, school district, any of it. "Never" is a real answer and a useful one.

04Do you use AI tools, like ChatGPT or Claude, in your work?
05Who looks at a proposal before it goes out?

Whoever actually checks it, not whoever signs it.

06Which kinds of government work interest you most?

Pick as many as apply. Where you already sell, or where you would want to.

07Which part of the process costs you the most?

Whole thing, start to finish. Pick as many as apply. If you do not bid, pick whatever looks worst from the outside.

08What makes bidding hard for you, or keeps you from doing it?

Not the dollar amount. Whatever it takes out of your week, or whatever stopped you. It is fine if the answer has nothing to do with paperwork.

09Have you ever lost or skipped a bid because of the process rather than the work itself?
10How much of the bidding work would you hand to software?

Assume nothing goes out the door without your approval.

11What would you expect something like this to cost per month?

Your number, not mine. I have not set a price, and I am not going to suggest one here.

And what would it have to do to be obviously worth your number?

12If it cost your number and did what you described, when would you start?

What would make you cancel in the first month?

13Which would you rather pay for?

These are examples of how it could be sold. None of them is for sale yet.

One permission, so your answer can be used

The grant application has to show real conversations happened. Without this I can still count your answer, but I cannot quote it.
